Sales and Books and MORE!

It's Saturday, and looks like I am slacking off at work yet again. Haha. And not only that I've got a lovely friend/co worker to get off topic and fantasize about shopping as well. Ah, I am so horrible ;P LOL

Anyways, I just wanted to let you guys know that there is a HUGE sale at Spring the shoestore at Metrotown. I just went yesterday and I got a pair of shoes just for $20 dollars CAD! ( Like i said in my earlier post I will do a post on that after i find my camera charger so i can take pictures.)

Also for all the contact wearers out there, C U Vision on the lower level of Metrotown (near T&T) is doing a promotion of buy one and get one free. That means its cheaper than getting those color cons online!

As for clothing, I do not know how many of you have heard of Plenty. But I absolutely LOVE the clothing there despite how it's a little pricey at times. BUT THERE IS A 50%-80% SALE THERE BECAUSE OF RENOVATIONS! Huge reason why I am probably hitting the mall again today. Plenty has such classy yet cute clothing <3

Last week I went to Chapters to renew my irewards and picked up a couple of reads. (Btw, I am IN LOVE WITH BOOKS!) I thought it might be fun to share:

1. Beauty Queens; By Libba Bray $18.99CAD w/irewards

Okay despite the totally sexy and awesome cover, (yes, that girl has a body to drool over ;D) this book has amazing morals that is told in just an odd and funny way, its very entertaining.

The whole book is like a modern day "Lords of the Flies" expect instead of male children, we have beautiful young Teen Dream Contestants stranded on an island. The character development of each and everyone of them is truly done in a magnificent way. The beginning of the book may seem as if all the characters seemed like dumb blonds. At times, I felt like face palming at what comes out of these girls mouths. Neverless I've become real attached to these characters because of their development. (I only have 100 more pages to go before I have to say goodbye to them! TT^TT.) Bray also does a horrifically intelligent job in creating an acceptable of non-traditional sexual preferences within this book, its something that I believe is a very nice touch because of the moral of how no matter how different someone is, we are still human.

In any case I want to share some of my favourite quotes within the book with everyone:

"I'm talking about my personal copilot, Jesus Christ."
"Someone should tell her personal copilot that his landings suck"

"Let's not speak ill of the dead, no matter how hideous their fashion sense."

"Don't you want to be a contributor to our economy? Don't you want to make sure we can have bikinis, cable, and porn? What are you, a communist?"

"Miss Montana? Is that the way a Miss Teen Dream sits, all slutty like that with her hoo-hoo showing?"

"Because 'You're perfect just the way you are' is what your guidance counselor says. And she's an alcoholic"

" 'I sat back timidly when you torched my house, killed my  parents, and ate my dog. But now you're stealing my boyfriend? That's a step too far!' "

I would definitely recommend to most girls, at some point of the book, there are things girls can relate to. Although for girls who do not enjoy reading a little humor about beauty queens (Yes, I am talking about those who are dead serious in wanting to becoming a beauty queen) it might not be the best read for them. As for guys, I would say you can take your pick. This book is 100% a "chick" book as some may put it. If you males out there want to read about beautiful girls that tries to survive on the island while practicing for the pageant with humorous sections, then I guess this is your read.

2. A Stolen Life: A Memoir; by Jaycee Dugard $21.00 w/ Irewards

I haven't had the chance to read this book yet. But from what I heard from friends and the book lovers at Chapters, it will be definitely a book I would cry a lot over. Unlike The Glass Castle: A memoir written by Jeannet Walls (If anyone has read that besides me) this book is more 'dark' compared to Walls' book. I am excited to read and see for myself soon. Once I've read it, I shall write a review on it. For now, I just thought it would be nice to share what i got. (:

Since I don't have a proper review on this I shall post what Chapters have written for everyone:

In the summer of 1991 I was a normal kid. I did normal things. I had friends and a mother who loved me. I was just like you. Until the day my life was stolen.
For eighteen years I was a prisoner. I was an object for someone to use and abuse.
For eighteen years I was not allowed to speak my own name. I became a mother and was forced to be a sister. For eighteen years I survived an impossible situation.
On August 26, 2009, I took my name back. My name is Jaycee Lee Dugard. I don't think of myself as a victim. I survived.
A Stolen Life is my story-in my own words, in my own way, exactly as I remember it.
